Loose wheel in PUR with cast iron hub

This is a loose wheel with a running surface in polyurethane and a hub in cast iron, built for heavy internal transport where the wheel is mounted directly onto its own axle. The combination of a wear resistant PU tread and a powerful cast iron hub makes it a work wheel that takes load day after day without losing its shape.

The tread in cast polyurethane carries load well and rolls with low resistance for its strength. It grips the surface, wears slowly and spares the floor considerably more than a wheel in hard plastic or steel. The polyurethane also takes most oils, greases and mild chemicals in a workshop, which means the running surface holds up even in dirty environments. The wheel gets going without unnecessary force and rolls evenly, something you notice with many starts and stops.

A comparison helps to place the wheel. A softer rubber wheel damps more and runs more quietly, but lowers the load capacity and raises the rolling resistance. A hard plastic or steel wheel rolls frugally but is noisy and can scratch sensitive floors. This PU tread sits in a tough middle position: hard enough to carry heavy loads and roll efficiently, elastic enough to spare the surface.

The hub in cast iron gives the wheel its stiffness; it is the core that carries the load and holds its shape even at high weight. That is why the series handles load capacities up to 700 kg per wheel. Inside the hub sit double ball bearings that spread the load over two rows of balls and give an even, stable run under heavy load. The cast iron weighs more than an aluminum hub, but in return it gives a very steady core for really heavy loads.

This family is supplied in the 150 mm diameter. A 150 millimeter diameter is a practical middle format that rolls stably over joints and thresholds while the overall height stays moderate. Since the wheel has no bracket it is mounted straight onto its own axle through the hub, which makes it easy to build into heavy carts and machine underframes.

Where does it fit? A loose PU wheel with a cast iron hub often sits under heavy transport carts, machine underframes, manual trucks and stable work tables in industry and warehouses. The wear resistant tread and the steady hub make it a good choice where the load is high and the surface even, for example on painted or ground concrete in a workshop.

Think about the operating environment. Polyurethane is happiest at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. If the wheel stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic materials. The cast iron hub carries heavy loads but is more sensitive to corrosion than aluminum, so in wet or very damp environments a corrosion resistant hub can be preferable.
